Eye Structure
The eye is the visual organ of the human body and consists of three parts: the eyeball, the visual pathway and the eye appendages
(1) The eyeball consists of the eyeball wall and the contents of the eyeball.
Eyeball Wall: consists of three membranes.
1) Outer layer: fibrous membrane, including the front transparent cornea and the rear opaque sclera,
2) Middle layer: The front part is called the iris, the middle part is the ciliary body, and the back part is the choroid.
3) Inner layer: the retina.
Contents of the eyeball: aqueous humor, lens and vitreous and other transparent tissues, and together with the cornea constitute the refractive system of the eye, which has the function of passing and refracting light.
(2) The visual pathway is the neural pathway of visual conduction. When the retina is stimulated by light, nerve impulses are generated, and vision is formed through the optic nerve, optic chiasm, optic tract, and optic ray to the occipital optic center of the brain.
(3) Ocular appendages are located around the eyeball, including the eyelid, bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva, lacrimal organ, extraocular muscles and bony orbits. In addition to the eyeball, the extraocular muscles protect the eyeball in different ways.
