Preservation methods of colored contact lenses

The maintenance of contact lenses is directly related to eye health and the service life of the lens. The correct maintenance method can effectively reduce the risk of infection and maintain the clarity of the lens. The following are the detailed maintenance steps and precautions:

1. Daily care steps of lenses

Wash hands before taking a mirror

Wash your hands thoroughly with a soap or hand sanitizer that is free of fragrance and moisturizing ingredients, and dry them with a clean towel (avoid fluffy towels to prevent fiber residue).

After washing hands, avoid touching other objects and directly take the mirror.

Change the nursing solution daily

After each wear, put the lens into the care box, pour out the old care solution (not reusable), and inject fresh care solution (to completely submerge the lens).

Nursing solution should be selected from regular brand multi-functional nursing solution (including cleaning, disinfection and moisturizing functions), and avoid using physiological saline or tap water instead (which cannot sterilize).

Lens cleaning and disinfection

Put the lens in your palm, drop 3-5 drops of care solution, and gently rub both sides of the lens with the pad of your index finger for 10-15 seconds (with moderate force to avoid scratching the lens with your nail).

Rub and rinse both sides of the lens with care solution for 5 seconds each to remove residual dirt and protein precipitation.

Change and clean the care box regularly

The care box should be rinsed with care solution every day and scalded with boiling water once a week (use after cooling). A new care box should be replaced every 3 months to avoid bacterial growth.

The care box lid should be opened to dry, and avoid the breeding of bacteria in a closed environment. Store it away from humid environments such as bathrooms.

2. Wearing and storage precautions

Control the wearing time

Daily disposable lenses should be discarded on the same day and should not be worn repeatedly; monthly or quarterly disposable lenses should be replaced according to the time limit of the instructions and should not be used beyond the time limit.

Daily wear time is recommended to be no more than 8 hours, and avoid overnight wear (unless the lens is clearly marked "overnight wear" and approved by a doctor).

Special circumstances may suspend the wearing

When you have a cold, fever, or eye inflammation (redness, itching, increased discharge), you should stop wearing it and use it after the symptoms have completely disappeared.

It is recommended to remove the lenses when swimming, bathing and applying makeup: The water in swimming is easy to pollute the lenses; cosmetics (especially mascara and eyeliner) may be attached to the lenses and irritate the eyes.

Store lenses properly

When not worn for a long time (more than 1 week), the lens should be soaked in fresh care solution, and the care solution should be replaced every 3 days. Before wearing again, the lens should be cleaned and disinfected.

When storing the lens, you need to distinguish the front and back (the bowl is the front, the disc is the back, and wearing the back may cause discomfort and slide the lens).

3. Handling common problems of lenses

Lens dry or adhered

If the lens is dry due to the evaporation of the care solution, do not wear it directly. Soak it in the care solution for 2-4 hours first. Check whether it is damaged after recovery. Clean and wear it again after confirmation.

When the lens is adhered, do not tear it forcibly. You can drop in the care solution and gently push it apart with your finger. If it cannot be separated, discard it.

Protein precipitation

If the lens is blurred, scratched or has protein precipitation (white spots), it is recommended to discard it even if it is not due for replacement (the precipitation cannot be completely removed and may cause infection).

Regular use of protease tablets (as per the instructions) can help remove stubborn proteins (suitable for long-term contact lenses, once or twice a week).

IV. Taboos and Reminders

Avoid getting it wet with saliva

4 Taboos and Reminders

Avoid using saliva to moisten the lens (saliva contains bacteria and can easily lead to eye infection). Carry a small bottle of care solution (no more than 100ml) with you on the plane to avoid exposure of lenses to air. If symptoms such as persistent redness, stinging and blurred vision occur after wearing the lens, stop wearing it immediately and seek medical attention. It may be lens contamination or eye inflammation. Proper maintenance of colored contact lenses can minimize the risk of corneal inflammation, conjunctivitis and other eye problems. If you find any abnormalities in the lens or eye discomfort, do not delay, consult your ophthalmologist immediately!
